Ratchet and Clank is a franchise that has stayed relevant for almost twenty years now. The games are fundamentally unchanged from the original core systems and mechanics of the original game. However, it’s the way in which this franchise has managed to tweak itself with modern systems and a new coat of paint with each generation of consoles that keep us coming back. Insomniac Games has a good feel for the PlayStation 5. Previously launching Spider-man Miles Morales with the console, and now with a PS5 exclusive that gives us a glimpse of what to expect when this new generation of gaming leaves the last generation behind. For now there are too many cross-platform games that are still trying to appeal to the owners of last gen, until then games like this will stand out. This game is a must play.

Humanity is a great get for PlayStation. It plays like a modern day Lemmings game where you need to lead people to what is perhaps the afterlife. Each stage is a puzzle so you can take on a stage or two at a time so you don’t get burned out. It is also worth noting that this is the first game in the catalogue that is also a PSVR2 title.

The modern Tomb Raider trilogy is now available. It’s a fantastic series. Now is a great time to get into them before the next title comes out. It would be great to see the original PS1 games enter the Classics Catalogue in the future.

This is a great month for everyone. It’s hard to tell for how long PlayStation can keep stacking great games to the game catalogue before we are relegated to lower tier titles.

PS Plus Game Catalogue April 2023

Well April appears to be a bit of a weak month compared to recent months. The games this month aren’t bad, but they’re mostly all first person shooters from Bethesda Games Studios. It’s a bit of a head scratcher seeing these Microsoft games here in what would have been some agreement by Sony. These games are in addition to the PlayStation Plus Essentials you can find HERE.

All titles are available Tuesday April 18, 2023.

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits – PS4, PS5
  • Doom Eternal – PS4, PS5
  • Riders Republic – PS4, PS5
  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – PS4
  • Slay the Spire – PS4
  • Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom – PS4, PS5
  • The Evil Within – PS4
  • Wolfenstein: The Old Blood – PS4
  • Bassmaster Fishing – PS4, PS5
  • Paradise Killer – PS4, PS5
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure – PS4, PS5

PlayStation Premium Classics

  • Doom – PS4
  • Doom II – PS4
  • Doom 64 – PS4
  • Doom 3 – PS4

Kena: Bridge of Spirits came out during the PlayStation 5 launch window. It was met with positive reviews, but it was quite pricey for the type of game it was. Personally, I wasn’t sold on the game at launch so I will be using its availability on the game catalogue to play it.

Slay the Spire was a PlayStation Essentials title in the past and it is phenomenal. This game takes simple card game mechanics into a roguelike. Every run feels unique and it quickly becomes apparent how deep the game is. This game may become your addiction and you just go with the one more run mentality.

The Evil Within fits perfectly this month as the director of Resident Evil 4 directed The Evil Within as a spiritual successor to that game. The horror is nailed in The Evil Within. It’s too terrifying in some regards, and feels a little clunky so it doesn’t touch the height of Resident Evil 4. Still a title worth recommending to people coming off of the remake of Resident Evil 4 looking for similar thrills.

Overall, not a great month for everyone unless you like FPS. There have been so many quality games in the past few months it doesn’t hurt to have a lessor month.

PS Plus Game Catalogue March 2023

February gave us the best month since the launch of the PlayStation Game Catalogue. Therefore it’s not easy to maintain new game additions and yet March looks to be another good month. These games are in addition to the PlayStation Plus Essentials you can find HERE.

All titles are available Tuesday March 21, 2023.

  • Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection – PS5

PlayStation Premium Classics

  • Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS1) – PS4, PS5
  • Ape Academy 2 (PSP) – PS4, PS5
  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP) – PS4, PS5

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection comprises of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and spinoff title Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. These two games are marque PlayStation 4 titles that have been updated for PlayStation 5. If you haven’t played them yet, well, they would be on the top of my list certainly. With rumours of a follow up game on the horizon it would be ideal for you to play these two titles so you know why the next game will be a departure from these two.

Tchia like Stray before it is dropping day and date into the game catalogue. This gives the vibes of a more platforming Seasons. What is cool about it is the inspiration comes from New Caledonia. Many people that go on cruises particularly in Australia have been there and explored the beautiful islands surrounding it. This will be particularly cool for me to see how they do it.

It will likely be a while before we see another game come from Tango Gameworks on PlayStation, since Bethesda is now owned by Microsoft. Ghostwire Tokyo came out to good reviews although it’s a game that sounds more divisive from users. Rage 2 is another similar title coming to the Game Catalogue this month that I would not recommend.

We get two more Life is Strange titles, meaning they are all available in the game catalog now. The same goes with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD now joining the rest of the library. If you like smaller games the smash hit Untitled Goose Game will be for you. Immortals Fenyx Rising is the one I always feel is underrated, and you should absolutely check it out. Kakarot is another must play for Dragon Ball fans, my review can be found HERE. The PlayStation Classics don’t hold a light to last months picks, but we do get another Syphon Filter game so that’s good.

Overall, another good month with diverse titles that should fit to most gamers needs.

PS Plus Game Catalogue February 2023

February has given us the best month since the launch of the PlayStation Game Catalogue. These games are in addition to the PlayStation Plus Essentials you can find HERE.

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

  • Horizon Forbidden West – PS4, PS5
  • The Quarry – PS4, PS5
  • Resident Evil 7 – PS4
  • Outriders – PS4, PS5
  • Scarlet Nexus – PS4, PS5
  • Borderlands – PS4, PS5
  • Tekken 7 – PS4
  • Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – PS4
  • Earth Defines Force 5 – PS4
  • Oninaki – PS4
  • Lost Sphear – PS4
  • I am Setsuna – PS4
  • The Forgotten City – PS4, PS5

PlayStation Premium Classics

  • The Legend of Dragoon – PS4, PS5
  • Wild Arms 2 – PS4, PS5
  • Harvest Moon: Back to Nature – PS4, PS5
  • Destroy All Humans! – PS4

Horizon Forbidden West was always going to come to the catalogue at some point being a PlayStation exclusive. Now that we know it dropped nearly a year to the day from its launch, we can probably expect this to be the case in the future, so expect God of War Ragnarök this November. I missed out on the Horizon sequel, although I am still contemplating replaying the first one again beforehand.

Another big release of last year was The Quarry, similar to Until Dawn. I think this game will be a big draw for the many people who already own Horizon Forbidden West. You also get Resident Evil 7 (only the PS4 version), notably this was in the PS Collection that will be discontinued in the coming months. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is the perfect sort of game I want to play through the game catalogue because in all likelihood it won’t be for me, however if it is I will be getting the Top Gun: Maverick DLC. There are some great RPGs to play like I am Setsuna. Another interesting pick is the mystery game The Forgotten City with the unique setting of Ancient Rome.

As for the classics we get the beloved game, The Legend of Dragon, as well as the sequel for Wild Arms. Finally Harvest Moon: Back to Nature marks three beloved PS1 titles this month. I think these three titles will see an increase in players joining the Premium tier. Personally, I will probably wait to see if there are trophies attached to these titles at launch or wait till they add them in.

Overall, a fantastic month with diverse titles that should fit to most gamers needs.

PS Plus Game Catalogue January 2023

January has some good titles coming to the game catalogue. This is in addition to the PlayStation Plus Essentials you can find HERE.

All titles are available Tuesday January 17, 2023.

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

  • Back 4 Blood – PS4/PS5
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ – PS4
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition – PS5
  • Devil May Cry 5 – PS4
  • Life is Strange – PS4
  • Life is Strange: Before the Storm – PS4
  • Sayonara Wild Hearts – PS4
  • Jett: The Far Shore – PS4/PS5
  • Just Cause 4: Reloaded – PS4
  • Omno – PS4
  • Erica – PS4

PlayStation Premium Classics

  • Syphon Filter 3 – PS4/PS5
  • Star Wars Demolition – PS4/PS5
  • Hot Shot Golf 2 – PS4/PS5

While PlayStation has highlighted Back 4 Blood as the big title, even Dragon Ball FighterZ would have been better, however I think it should of been Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition. Devil May Cry 5 is one of the best games of the last generation. Special Edition comes with all new bells and whistles that I’m excited to jump back into to experience. This is the game I recommend the most.

Life is Strange, and the prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm are another great couple of picks. They are beloved adventure games in the style of Tell Tale Games that I can absolutely recommend. There is a Life is Strange Remastered Collection, which packages both with upgraded graphics that is unfortunately not available here. There is Just Cause 4: Reloaded giving a massive open world game and some hit indie titles like Sayonara Wild Hearts.

As for the classics we get Syphon Filter 3 to close out the original PS1 trilogy, as well as the sequel for Hot Shots Golf, so we’re seeing PlayStation drip feed their catalogue. I’m not unhappy with the titles as the Yakuza games have recently made their way there too, so there is a ton of value in this tier already. Star Wars Demolition sounds cool if it is like Twisted Metal, so it may be a fun pick as well.

Overall, a nice month with diverse titles that should fit to any gamers need.
